Freelancejewellery designer Graham Parker studied jewellery design and manufacture atWrexham College Of Art (NEWI) from 1981 to1985. He was previously employed as a watch and clock repairer, specialising inantique clocks, for which he qualified in 1959.
In 1984, while still a student, he designed and made trophies for theBritish Menswear Association Best Dressed Man Award. The following year hereceived a commission from the British Wool Secretariat to design and make seventrophies for the 21st. anniversary of the Woolmark in Britain. Other commissionsinclude the Badge of Office for the Chairperson of Halkyn Community Council andthe Badge of Office for the Chairperson of the Community and Town Councils ofWales. Graham's most recent commission was for the Chaplain's Badge of theLondon Livery Company House of Cards.
Graham has exhibited his work in the Welsh Craft Showcase at several venuesincluding St.Davids Hall, Cardiff in 1984 and 1985,The Mostyn Gallery, Llandudno,County Buildings, Wrexham and the Oswestry Heritage Centre, Oswestry.
Graham's business Studio Bee is well established. He works with gold andsilver, repairs and manufactures clocks and barometers. The two pictures shownhere emphasise the design and production aspects of Grahams work. The picture(top left) is of a pendant portraying the legend of Sant Melangell who dissuadeda Lord out hunting from killing a hare. Sant Melangell has since been known asthe patron saint of hares. The Lord, somewhat impressed by the Lady,granted her land on which to build a convent which was situated in PennantMelangell at the head of the Tanat valley. The second picture (bottom right) isone of the accepted designs for Powys County Council badges of office, Graham's most recent commision.
