The project has now received funding until
March 1997, during which time the former issues will continue to
be addressed.
Powys Telecentre Development Project
An ERDF Project under the Rural Wales

Background
The Telecentre development project is the result of a twelve
month study of the Telecentres in Powys. This study was
undertaken by the Telecentre support officer who was appointed in
June 1994 under the Strategic Development Scheme.
The ERDF project was submitted under Priority 3 (Countryside
Management and Community Development), Measure 2 (Rural
Services). The project benefits the whole of Powys.
Project Description
The project will enhance provision at the twelve existing
Telecentres, and assist the development of three new facilities
over the project period. The Telecentres will provide facilities
for:
- self-study and assisted open and distance learning using
computer-based training and other self-study materials
- tutored training
- use of computer and communications equipment by
businesses, community groups and the public
- access to on-line information services and other
teleservices for community and business benefit
- electronic communications systems will provide a local
link to regional organisations including electronic mail
services, bulletin board systems, video telephone links
- 'drop-in office' facilities to support outreach services
by regional organisations to rural communities
This project will meet the cost of:
- bringing the equipment in all the Telecentres up to an
appropriate standard
- consultancy and support to ensure the maximum benefit is
gained from investment in the centres
- adaptation and upgrading of premises to provide
appropriate accommodation and amenities for Telecentre
and drop-in use, including disabled access
- installation of telecommunications links, equipment and
software
- purchasing and developing software to support community
and business use of the facilities
EDRF Grant Aid
The total project cost is £538,950, total eligible
expenditure is £436,950. The amount of ERDF applied for is
£218,475.
Project Period
- The project is retrospective for 1994 through to 1997.
