THE COTTAGES

The cottages were once an old farm barn constructed about 150 years ago of Welsh stone and slate. Now tastefully converted, retaining old oak beams and even an original 'arrow slit' window in Severn Cottage, the cottages offer all the modern day amenities you could wish for without forgetting the charm of the past.

All three cottages are carpeted throughout, have heating, fully fitted kitchens with hob, oven and fridge, a dining area and lounge with comfortable cottage suite and TV. Bathrooms have modern suites, power showers, heaters and electric fans. 'Elan' has two bedrooms; one twin, one double.

Severn has a beautiful 4 poster double bed with dressing room large enough for a cot. Wye has a twin bedroom and adjoining dressing room, with a third single bed with plenty of room for a cot.

Situated in approximately one acre of land, your holiday base allows peaceful strolls and evenings spent relaxing on the patio barbequing beneath some of the crispest, clearest starlight skies imaginable. After all, the local village is the highest in Wales, making star gazing and stunning sunsets over the mountains towards the coast a regular occurence, so don't forget your camera.

THE IMMEDIATE AREA

Wye View is a mile from the village of Llangurig, a short evening stroll, 5 minutes by push bike or the briefest moment by car. Our nearest neighbours either side or across the valley spring into view about 1/4 mile away.

Llangurig itself has two pubs, both serving good wholesome food and real ales, and offering a welcoming open fire for those cooler evenings. The local store and Post Office are opposite the Black Lion as is the well known Craft Shop. Just 5 miles further on the historic market town of Llanidloes has everything the discerning shopper or tourist could wish for.

THE AREA IN GENERAL

Little Switzerland and the Welsh Lake District are terms often used to describe this area. Valleys, mountains and spectacular lakes are all around. The reservoir at Llyn Clwedog has a water expanse of 615 acres. Sailing and game fishing are encouraged and whitewater canoeing can be experienced under the tallest dam in Britain - 72 meters high. The views around Llyn Clwedog are wonderful with many walks and footpaths to explore right to the water's edge if you wish.

With the seaside resort of Aberystwyth just 25 miles, Snowdonia approx. one hour's drive and the English border a short jaunt, your sightseeing options are endless.

The immediate area is renowned for sightings of the very rare bird of prey, the Red Kite. Until recent years only 20 pairs were recorded in the UK. Watch as they gracefully soar above the cottage or visit nearby Rhayader and see them being fed by hand. The scenery all around is natural, beautiful and unspoilt and frequented by all varieties of wildlife - deer, fox, buzzard, otter and many more. The Spotted Woodpecker is also a regular visitor to Wye View. We also have our own 'Spice Girls' - Clove and Nutmeg our friendly rare breed sheep. Very popular with the children.

WHAT'S TO DO?

Nothing, go on spoil yourself, do nothing. If total relaxation is not your thing and you must do - well you'll be spoilt for choice. Golf, horseriding, fishing, sailing, mountain biking, walking, canoeing, quad biking, even the pleasures of the seaside, are all here and more besides. Within a few miles there is an indoor swimming pool, squash courts, aerobics, circuit training and even more to wear you to a frazzle. Further detailed information on much of the above can be supplied when you arrive, and in some cases it may be possible to arrange a personal guide. All cottages have a selection of tourist information leaflets.

There are no end of footpaths and trails. In fact, we have a footpath that begins right from our own doorstep climbing up across the hills and beyond, joining hundreds of other paths as the miles drift by. Bridlepaths and tracks for mountain bikes are also prevalent as are some very entertaining offroad tracks for 4 by 4 vehicles.

ADDITIONAL SERVICES

If you are adventurous but don't have the wheels, we have two mountain bikes for hire; one gents and one ladies. For balmy evenings we have barbeques if you don't wish to lug your own along, and a baby's cot and high chair are also available by prior arrangement. Towels can be hired for a small fee if you are tight on suitcase space, and there is a launderette nearby.
