PEDEC is affiliated to DEA (The Development Education Association) and keeps in contact with other development education centres in the UK.

PEDEC produces a schools activity sheet for classroom and assembly World Matters - three times a term and a digest sheet - PEDEC's Tracks - once a term both of which are sent out to every school in Powys. Back copies of these are available on request.

All our work is designed to fit in with the National Curriculum and the needs of the schools. We are happy to discuss any aspect of our work. If you should encounter the answering machine please don't be put off, leave a message and we will get back to you promptly.

This project is part of a nationwide network of Development Education Centres. PEDEC is funded mainly by OXFAM and Christian Aid.

During, this century our planet has undergone dramatic changes in population, pollution and the pressures humanity puts on its natural resources. It has become clear that much environmental degradation hinges on the huge and growing gap between the planets rich North and poor South, making the link between environment and development unavoidable.

WHAT IS DEVELOPMENT EDUCATION?

It is a process which aims:

to enable us to understand the links between our own lives and those of people throughout the world;

to increase understanding of the economic, social, political and environmental forces which shape all our lives;

to develop the skills, attitudes and values which enable people to work together to bring about change and take control of our own lives;

to achieve a more just world in which power and resources are shared by all.
